Camping is an expansive way to connect with yourself and others. Whether to shake off work and get out of town for awhile or to simply explore something new, it’s one of the unique ways for you and your pod to taste freedom in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. If you’ve never been camping before it might sound like a rough, rigid, and unpleasant nights sleep, but that doesn’t have to be the case. At Simple Camper, we’ve created a novice-friendly, complete turn-key camper van rental experience located in Marin County, California.

Never been camper van camping before? That’s okay! No prior experience is necessary.

We supply all the basic essentials. Providing unlimited mileage (take it for a month, if you please) with each camper van rental means never having to worry about driving over a daily limit. We offer WiFi for remote-work and digital entertainment, as well as the necessary cooking and camping gear included. Our camper vans come with an upper and a lower tier bed system. It has a GoalZero power and battery system enabling you to plug in small electronics (cell phone, laptops, cameras, etc.). The vans come with LED lights, swivel seats, an optional standing/sitting desk, roof fan, and plenty of space to feel comfortable both inside and out of the camper van.

When you go camping most campsites offer a picnic table, a place to park your camper van, and a spot to pitch a tent. However, not all of them do. If you are planning to camp on public land it’s possible that your campsite will not include some of the most basic campsite amenities. During COVID, campgrounds at state and national parks have been unavailable for camping, so we recommend our renters use Hipcamp to locate campsite destinations for their adventures. (Simple Camper team members are available if you need help with this process or if you just want to ask questions about safe, fun, and adventurous places to take a camper van).

Answering the question, “what to bring camping in a camper van,” often depends on the experience you’re seeking to enjoy and the environment you’re exploring, but there are a few essentials that can go along way in making your camping adventure more pleasant.

Listed below are 10 items we recommend packing to bring with you camping:

1). Sweats — It’s a smart choice to bring sweatpants with you camping because nights often get chilly and you don’t want to end up feeling cold. Even in warm weather conditions sweatpants are a source of comfort. Bring them.

2). Sandals — You’ll want something easy to slip on-and-off when jumping-in and exiting the van. Our camper vans don’t have a bathroom inside of them, so in the middle of the night when it’s time to pee, you’re going to want something simpler than a pair of boots to wear outside. Sandals are a win even during cold weather camping (hopefully you’re wearing socks).

3). Wet Wipes — An essential part of the camper van experience. They make multi-day camping adventures more bearable for your travel companions. Keep yourself feeling spiffy and fresh while away from the comforts of a hot shower.

4). Reusable Water Bottle — Cut down on plastic while in nature and in general. Improving the environment requires an effort from each of us.

5). String Lights — Camping is all about the vibe and nothing says ‘gone camping’ more than a fun set of festoon lights. String lights help to illuminate your campsite and they offer an inviting experience (We include a set of lights).

6). Bluetooth Speaker — Again with the vibe, a speaker goes a long way in creating the experience you’re seeking. Imagine a subtle tune in the background while enjoying the inside of the camper van after dark. Music is fun, but please be aware of your environment and be respectful of other campers who might be parked nearby.

7). Paper & Pen — Traveling has a way of opening the heart and expanding the mind. Creating memorable experiences is a priceless opportunity, and in a way, it feels like the nectar of life. Doing more of what we love in life is something worth investing in. Writing is a simple way to save a moment and be able to recall it back in the future.

8). Eye Cover — You’d be amazed at how bright the moon is when you are parked in the middle of nowhere.

9). Recycling & Trash Containers — This is less about what to bring, and is more of a friendly reminder to continue to do your part to help the environment.

10). Mindset — Bring the right mindset. The joy of camping is found in the simple, unfamiliar moments of the trip. Stay open and enjoy the experience.
